What is self-hosted n8n?

It's n8n running on a cloud server that belongs to your account instead of a shared automation workspace. You control the server, data location, and network exposure.

How do I access it after deployment?

Use http://SERVER_IP:5678 in your browser, then create the first owner account in n8n. The deployment output shows the exact IP endpoint.

Can I use my own domain and HTTPS?

Yes. Point your domain's DNS record to the server IP, then add your own reverse proxy and TLS configuration. If you move from IP to a domain, update n8n's public URL environment variables too.

Is n8n open source?

n8n is source-available under the Sustainable Use License. You can self-host it, but its license is different from OSI-approved open-source licenses.

What size should I choose?

Use Starter / Testing only for tests or light personal workflows. n8n Recommended (2 vCPU / 2 GB RAM) is the normal self-hosted default. Choose n8n AI / Production Recommended (2 vCPU / 4 GB RAM) for AI workflows, frequent Code nodes, or several tasks at once. The 4 vCPU / 8 GB RAM production tier automatically runs n8n with a private Postgres database.
